Marmaris & Beyond: Quiet Towns, Scenic Trails, and a Mountain Adventure
While based around Marmaris, we explored more of the peninsula’s hidden charms, from peaceful seaside towns like Datça and Akyaka to stunning hikes. We even ventured back to Fethiye to tackle the epic Babadag hike, a 2,000-meter challenge that pushed us to our limits. With beautiful sunsets, friendly locals, and plenty of adventures, this part of Turkey left a lasting impression.

Ghost Town Walk
We arrived in the Fethiye area a few days early before meeting up with family, so we decided to explore an incredible hike through an abandoned Greek town. The eerie ruins and quiet paths made for a fascinating adventure. Along the way, we stopped to try a local delicacy called gözleme—a pancake like flatbread stuffed with a filling of your choice. It was simple, delicious, and the perfect fuel for our walk! Visiting out of season turned out to be a great decision, as we had this stunning corner of the world almost entirely to ourselves.

Somewhere
This spot easily ranks among the best views we’ve ever had for a sunset. It was absolutely breathtaking, and the best part? We had it all to ourselves, in complete silence. Sometimes, moments like this, just watching the sun dip below the horizon, remind us how powerful the simple things in life can be.

Akyaka
A local tip led us to Akyaka, and we’re so glad it did. This charming little town has a unique vibe, even with most places closed for the off season. We spent a few blissful hours strolling through its picturesque streets, soaking up the sun, and enjoying the peaceful seaside setting. It’s the kind of place that surprises you in the best way.

Datça
Another laid back day exploring yet another charming seaside town. Datça had such a lovely vibe that we decided to take a short 6 km round trip up to the old town. When we arrived, we were greeted by quiet, empty streets, and cats. So many cats! Naturally, we couldn’t resist stopping for a few cuddles along the way.

Babadag
From the moment we arrived and saw this towering mountain dominating the backdrop, we knew we had to hike it. Babadag, pain by name, challenge by nature. Over 10 miles of relentless incline brought us to the 2,000-meter summit in 5.5 grueling hours, with the descent still to conquer. It was tough, but reaching the top felt like an incredible achievement, and it’s a moment we’re truly proud of.
